It's been a very good year for Fins'n'Feathers Photogrraphy, with travel to nearby and distant lands. These are some of the best photos of 2013, from Cuba, Thailand and Cambodia, as well as dive trips to Saba, St. Kitts and the Turks and Caicos Islands, a cross-country motor trip, and a foray into New England. There was even time to shoot some birds in Florida in the spring. I recommend viewing this gallery as a slide show, as the title slides will tell you where you are...
Candid portraits of Cambodian people, from infants to elderly, shopkeepers to shamans. Not included here are the many monks, who are featured in another gallery. Cambodian people are remarkably happy and optimistic, in spite of living in one of the most corrupt countries on earth, with a tragic and bloody recent history.
One of the highlights of my recent dive trip to Fiji was a visit to a traditional Fijian village, called Namuaniwaqa (it's easier to write than to say...). Our group was welcomed by most of the village residents with a kava ceremony, music and dancing in the community center, then toured the school and met the people, who were incredibly happy and friendly. These images tell part of the story.
Reddish egrets are my favorite wading birds. Unlike most other waders, they have no patience as they hunt for prey in the shallow back bays in tropical and subtropical coastal waters. They run and dance and cavort, pivoting on a dime, flapping their wings and sometimes shading with their wings to block the glare on the water. These photos were taken in December 2016 at Merritt Island NWR in Florida.
